Tell the Council what you think of its plans
So, almost one year on from the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Birmingham City Council has finally published its proposals for Perry Park.
It calls it a “Proposed Masterplan”.
We know they are having a re-think on some of the proposals in their “masterplan” but they have launched a public consultation to gather feedback on the plan as it stands - so we need to tell them exactly what we think of their published proposals.
You can find the Council’s documents here.
The proposals include various things which we’ve been campaigning against.
Including permanently fencing off the park land in the north-west of Perry Park - something that over 5,000 people have objected to in our petition.
We don’t believe that the Council’s public consultation offers enough guidance - and frankly, we don’t trust the team working on it because they have gone back on their word on several key issues.
And some of the assertions they make in the public consultation are simply untrue (for example stating that an area of public park where they want to build a beach volleyball facility “was not appropriate for use by pedestrians previously, due to the varying ground levels” which is totally made up).
And don’t forget, the (now former) Leader of Birmingham City Council told us back in April, in response to our petition, that reinstatement works in Perry Park (which they defined as removing the tarmac coach park and associated drainage pits, flattening the soil mounds, and re-seeing the area) were underway.
Well that tarmac coach park, those drainage pits, those soil mounds are all still exactly as they were - it’s now late July.
And there’s still no sign of children’s play equipment being replaced, the week that school summer holidays start.
So, please do complete the Council’s public consultation, and tell them what you think.
But we’ve separately compiled a few questions on what we think are the key issues.
Please take a few minutes to give us your views, too - and please ask your family and friends to do so as well.
That way at least we can share what people are actually saying they want and need from their community’s local park.
Thank you.
